STATUS: Research / study

Although the following reflections are still theoretical, let us think seriously about the activation of the slowed-down layering process of the building structure in the historical city centres. With some exaggeration we can say that the construction activity grows proportionally with the increasing distance from the city centre, where our approach is too distant. Although caution is upon the place, in this case there is a conflict with the natural builder tradition according to which the city was built.
The only century managed to fundamentally transform the expression, functioning and status of the historical urban core,
despite the emergence of historic preservation. The current image corresponds to a significant decline of old residents and to the continuous replacement of residential buildings functions by non-residential ones. The standard public facilities were replaced and adapted to the needs and demands of tourists. The price of everything has increased several times.
In general we need to change our approach to the historic core. Our behaviour now prevents the shifting and natural addition of the other authentic level into spaces layered for millennia.
Why suddenly stop this process? Is there really any other place for building? No!
By means of detailed research, analysis and mapping of the model area (Malá Strana - one of the most compact structure in Prague) was demonstrated a considerable reserve, which reflects the current spatial possibilities of building in the most valuable urban environment. Let's use it!
